Gravity
The site’s prominent south-facing slope, integrated with the rest of the site through the operations of gravity, forms the basis for an alternative stormwater management strategy. The coarse grid represents a proposed circulation and drainage system wherein water is infiltrated as much as possible before flowing over the land and into the valley bottom, which functions as the natural basin for surface flows.

Sun
This sketch suggests the relationship between topography and microclimate. Terraced buildings that are orientated towards the sun maximize solar gain both for residential units as well as for surrounding open spaces. Sensitive siting and vegetation keep buildings cool in the summer and warm in the winter.
