COMMUNITY CONTEXT

A topographic survey map showing the two case study sites within their community context.  On this map urbanized areas and forests are shown in grey, and agricultural and open space areas in white.  The study sites sit within the southern portion of the Newton district in the City of Surrey.  A 4.3 hectare (10.5 acre) proposed development was selected as a typical example of 'status quo development'.  A similar sized portion of one of the four Surrey charrette plans was selected as an example of 'sustainable alternative development'.  The Sustainable Alternative Development case study site includes the previously discussed Traditional Pattern with Ecological Underlay case study site within its boundaries.
